This is a peace-of-mind item to put on your shelf for the time when you might be out of solutions and you need it! This is a 116mm bottom bracket with wierd eccentric cups. In many cases, if you have a frame with compromised threads (that can't easily be filled in by a famebuilder with brass) you can ream the shell and re-tap to Italian. It can make for a shell that's kinda thin, but it's typically something that can be done.
But - what if you have Italian threads and it can't be done? Well here is this Edco bottom bracket. You install it so that the cups in a position so that the cups and cartridge insert make a smooth and round insert. But when in place, when the cups are rotated (big flats on the cup) the cups are now "proud" of the cartridge insert and the unit wedges itself in place in the shell. Yep, you better make sure it's all really tight. But now you have a bb in the right length for classic Campy type cranks!
The unit does not just slide into a French or BSC threaded shell. It should go into an Italian shell. So if your shell is still has it's French or BSC threads it will need to be reamed. So while this unit isn't for everyone it's nice having this trick in reserve on your parts shelf so that the trusty frame that you love but has compromised threads can go back into service. We bought these at a nice price. Yes, the do sell for more on ebay. What we have a small number of these new in the box and we want to deliver affordable peace-of-mind.
